Olli Martin is a trombonist originally from North-East Hampshire, and a graduate of the BMus jazz course at the prestigious Royal Academy of Music where he achieved first class honours in July 2017.
As a freelance trombonist, Olli has performed with the BBC Big Band, the Gareth Lockrane Big Band, the Gordon Campbell Big Band, Cory Wong, Nikki Isles Big Band, Stan Sulzmann Neon Orchestra, James Taylor Quartet, The London Horns, Urban Soul Orchestra and Alex Mendham and his Orchestra. He has performed at venues and festivals including the Vortex, 606 jazz club, Pizza Express Jazz Club, The Spice of Life, The Cadogan Hall, Lancaster Jazz Festival (2016), London Jazz Festival, Brecon Jazz Festival, Scarborough Jazz Festival.
Olli has also worked in the west end, playing on '42nd Street' at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane and currently Tina Turner The Musical at Aldwych Theatre.
During February and March 2019 Olli performed with U.S.A guitarist Cory Wong (Vulfpeck) as part of Cory's six date U.K tour.
In November 2016, Olli won the Don Lusher Jazz Trombone Competition.
Olli leads his own project, the Olli Martin Quintet, which performs his original compositions. The music is rooted in the jazz style and draws upon a wide range of influences, styles and composers including Dave Holland, Robin Eubanks, The Mason Brothers & Eddie Parker. The Quintet have performed at venues including The Vortex, Kansas Smitty's, Con Cellar Bar, the Talking Heads Southampton and at the East Jazz Network Festival (October2019).
Whilst at the Royal Academy, Olli studied with trombonists Gordon Campbell, Mark Bassey, Trevor Mires and Barnaby Dickinson, as well as studying with Nick Smart, Pete Churchill and Barak Schmool. Olli regularly performed with the Royal Academy big band at venues including the Queen Elizabeth Hall, the Purcell Room and the Cadogan Hall.
